WHAT IS SPX?

Simply put, SPX is a combination of weight training and Pilates. SPX utilizes the best of both. It combines the strengthening and toning benefits of weight training and the lengthening and postural enhancing benefits of Pilates in a circuit training sequence. SPX keeps the heart rate up and burns extra calories. The routines incorporate old school exercises such as pushups and lunges; however, the support of the Proformer eliminates the pressure on joints and the spine.

I HAVE NEVER DONE PILATES. CAN I DO THE CLASSES OR SHOULD I DO PRIVATE SESSIONS FIRST?

It depends on your current fitness level. Most of our new students do just fine in the class, especially if they take the introduction class first (offered weekly). The workout is intense, but the routine is kept simple to make sure everyone is using good form. However, if you have chronic back pain, painful joints or a severe medical condition, it is recommended that you take a private session first to assess your fitness level.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?

1. Most importantly, bring a positive attitude. Leave all your worries behind. The class is for you. You need to be present-minded when working out to maximize the physical and mental benefits of the class.

2. Bring a towel, as you will most likely sweat!

3. You may wish to wear grip workout socks for added traction.

4. We have bottled water at the studio, but please bring a bottle for water to avoid wasting plastic cups.

5. Wear loose, comfortable clothes that allow your muscles to stretch and your skin to "breathe".

6. Jewelry is NOT a good idea. Your necklace may catch into the spring system (a nightmare to undo), and you may forget it or lose it.

7. No cell phones during classes (please be respectful of others).

8. No strong perfumes as some students are allergic.

9. If you are about to renew, please bring your payment. Most of our clientele pay online using our automated system.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE SPX?

The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue at which point you need to rest. Depending on your fitness level and the intensity of your workout, you will need more or less time to recover. I would recommend 2 to 3 times a week to allow your body to properly recover and repair. Some students love the workout so much that they come 5 or 6 times a week. This is generally not recommended as your muscles need time to repair to get the best results from SPX. Listen to your body.

WHAT IF I CAN'T COME TO CLASS AND I HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED? WILL I BE CHARGED?

Yes, even if it's your first time. Because of the limited number of spaces in each class, we need to be sure that if you have signed up for a spot, you will show up for the class. We absolutely require a 12-hour notice when making any kind of changes to your schedule. If you are a package member or you are taking your first class, you will forfeit the class if you late cancel or do not attend your scheduled class. If you are an unlimited monthly client, we will charge an additional $15 each time you late cancel or reschedule a class without giving us the full 12-hour notice, and we will charge an additional $25 each time you are signed up for a class and do not attend. There are no exceptions, so please don't ask. If you can't make your class and are within the 12-hour window, we encourage you to late cancel rather than no show in order to reduce the charge and to make space for another member in the class.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT SCHEDULING CLASSES AND TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE AUTOMATED BOOKING SYSTEM?

Someone is usually available during class hours. We recommend that all of our clients become familiar with our automated booking system. It is the easiest, fastest and most accurate way to book classes. If you forget your password or need more info, call us or e-mail us.

MAY I BRING MY CHILDREN TO CLASS IF THEY SIT QUIETLY WHILE I WORK OUT?

Honestly, we would love to meet your adorable little ones, but due to safety and insurance concerns we cannot allow children to stay in the studio while class is in session. It is not safe to have little hands near the machines or to have other clients distracted while they are in poses that require concentration and balance. Same goes for all of your furry friends.
